Summary
Pathe synopsis: One of Britains oldest traditions - and certainly the noisiest - is the ancient ceremony of initiating a lad after five years’ apprenticeship to the Society of Coopers, craftsmen of the brewers industry. Conducted every few years when an apprentice is qualified, "trussing the cooper", as it is called, has changed little since the 14th century - the victim being rolled in a barrel with an unwholesome mixture of water, wood shavings and anything else that is going!! [Location is Whitbread’s City Brewery, London.]
