Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Lofoten Island Exploit. DESCRIPTION: Norwegian civilians and fighting services have arrived in Britain after being rescued from the Lofoten Islands. The best part of the whole operation was the destruction of the Codfish industry which the Nazi’s were using to store oil and make glycerine for their explosives. SHOTLIST: The Norwegians who travelled to England aboard warships are greeted by King Haakon. Before this a sergeant in Norwegian uniform has spoken. Then the National Anthem is sung. War Office Material (Not to be used again without permission) - Various shots on the quayside and of the assembled Norwegians. Prisoners are taken aboard blind-folded and ashore a Nazi SA man and his staff are guarded with Tommy guns. Aboard ship they pace the deck - Lt Com Anthony Kimmins in the background. The oil storage dumps are fired, buildings blown up and oil casks pierced and thrown into the sea which is a blazing mass of oil. The convoy starts back home after minding barges have brought everybody off safely. These barges are of peculiar construction and should be remembered for future use.
