Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Munitions Concert. DESCRIPTION: Mr Bevin speaks to munitions workers during the interval of an ENSA concert. SHOTLIST: Various shots of the men. Will Fyffe entertains them. Then Mr Bevin addresses them and, as he leaves the platform, he is mobbed by enthusiastic workers. Speech: "Well mates, every since we took office we have been exhorting you to work hard. I have never known so much exhortation to work hard in my life. But we’ve got to do it to win this victory and I know you’ll do it. And there’s a good quarter in the Government that through whom I’m going to work with these concerts. There’s Albert Alexander of the Navy, Herbert Morrison the minister of supply and Lord Beaverbrook and myself. With the other three I’ll get the job done. I’m grateful as the Government is and everyone for the marvellous output that has been given. I want you to keep it up because the more you keep it up the quicker we’ll get this wretched job over and we’re going to get it over on our terms. And we’ll do it cheerfully and we shan’t have to alter very much. We’ll all go along together with a mighty effort and show to the Hitlers and Mussolinis that we do not only work and fight but we can be cheerful in doing."
