Summary
The Victory Day spectacle begins at dawn. Reveille heralds the polishing and preparations of the parading troops. Crowds assemble along the route of procession. The parade comes into view and passes through the streets where war veterans mingle in the massed crowds. The naval contingent is saluted in pictures from the grim days of the U-boat war and the marching in infantrymen in pictures taken in the desert fighting and on D-day. As the Civil Defence and NFS contingents pass, pictures recall their work in the Blitz and London’s great fire. Returning to the procession, we concentrate on the Royal Saluting Base where the King takes the salute. And then, as a climax to the day of celebration Pathe pays a special tribute to the one section of our people who were not given their due in the parade; the thirteen million housewives of Britain. Finally, we salute Mrs Everywoman, reunited with her family and facing a new world in the future Britain.
