Summary
Australians advance on Tarakan (Borneo) and capture oil wells. Japanese troops surrender to American troops on Okinawa after being ferreted out with grenades and flame throwers. One Japanese soldier broadcasts to his comrades to surrender, and gradually they begin to come out from their hide-outs. A seriously wounded Japanese naval officer is one of the first to be taken alive. Naval vessels bombard the island of Truk in the Carolines, and an aircraft carrier is hit by a Kamikaze plane. B-24 Liberator in flight over Truk bursts into flames and crashes to the ground, the picture was taken from plane above. Generals Stillwell and Buchner who commanded on Okinawa are seen together. Buchner was killed in action. His place as Chief of Staff to Chiang Kai Shek goes to General Wedemeyer. Arrival at Simla of various Indian notables, including Gandhi, Jinnah, Pandit Nehru to attend meeting at Vice Regal Lodge. The conference proved a failure in spite of the efforts by General Wavell to bring about a settlement of the Indian problem.
