Summary
RAF night raid on Berlin in November, and results seen the next day. German women help clear rubble to earn more rations. A Sunday in Berlin after the Surrender, with Germans out for a stroll, in pavement cafes, etc. At Karlshorst a Sunday race meeting is held attended by a large crowd. This takes place in the Russian zone and a few Soviet troops are seen. At an open air market Berliners receive their ration of dehydrated potatoes, 2 1/2 lbs to last ten days. Montgomery greets Marshal Zhukov and Rokossovsky and by order of the King invests Zhukov with the GCB. Next day was British day, Friday the 13th, and a big parade was held in the British zone along the Charlottenburg Chaussee. The salute was taken by Major General Lyne and members of all three services took part. President Truman lands at Antwerp from the cruiser "Augusta" en route for the Big Three Conference at Berlin. At Brussels airport he boards the giant Skymaster plane which was formerly Roosevelt’s personal plane. With him is General Eisenhower and other service chiefs. Arriving at Potsdam for the conference is Mr Churchill and earlier arrivals had included Admiral Cunningham, Field Marshal Brooke and Air Marshal Portal, also Mr Attlee and Eden. Later, Mr Churchill accompanied by Eden and daughter Mary Churchill is seen touring the ruins of Berlin and visiting the spot where Hitler and Eva Braun died. Flags fly from the conference building and uniformed Red Guards are seen everywhere to enforce security. Prior to the conference Mr Churchill visited President Truman at his villa called The Little White House. At the conference Churchill is seen chatting with Stalin.
