- Summary
- Troops of the British and Canadian 21st Army Group prepare for the crossing of the Rhine on the Wesel sector. Landing craft and other vessels are seen in Antwerp harbour. Rocket-firing Typhoons and Mitchells attack enemy resistance in the Wesel area, including a farmhouse which had been converted into a German HQ. Paratroops of the US 17th Airborne Division prepare for a mass drop, so too do men of the British 6th Airborne Division. Their job was not to gain the first bridgeheads but to extend existing ones. Dakotas carrying the Red Devils take off and pass over the White Cliffs. Over the target the gliders are released and on landing the men spill out. One Dakota is seen to crash. The first of the German prisoners are transported back across Rhine by boat. Churchill arrives on the scene and with Eisenhower and Montgomery watches operations.
