Summary
Aerial shots of bombing raid on Cologne, one of the many which helped destroy 85 to 90% of the city’s buildings. A Lancaster bomber explodes in the air after a direct hit. On the ground troops press forward through the town of Kevalaer and from a window hangs a white flag. We pass refugees who are returning to their town. On to Krefeld, and then Cologne. Through the steel tracery of the Hohenzollern Bridge is seen the rubble that was Cologne. Street fighting in progress with tracer shells flying and houses collapsing. A German tank explodes and American troops and tanks advance. German propaganda posters on walls of houses are the city’s epigraph - only the Cathedral remains standing.
