Summary
Street scenes in Athens showing shoe-shine boy at work, barbed wire entanglements, trams being towed by army lorries, houses bombed during ELAS troubles, refugees collecting their belongings from damaged houses, covered corpses in streets, Hammer & Sickle daubed on walls, soup issued to people by British soldiers, ELAS POWs being de-loused. In the French port of Toulon Red Cross ships carrying urgently needed medical supplies destined for the central clearing house in Geneva. Trucks pull away from the dockside bound for Switzerland. Heavy road haulage vans enter the warehouse in Geneva where thousands of Red Cross gift-packages are stored, comforts which help to make a prisoner’s life bearable. The President of the International Red Cross, Professor Carl Burkhardt and Mr James, Chief of the American Red Cross in Geneva. Fifty railway wagons each containing ten tons of supplies, leave for Germany daily. Geneva at night. A neutral capital, with brilliantly illuminated shop fronts. The River Rhone flows through the city. Here also is the HQ of the International Red Cross, which houses the vast filing system of every prisoner of war from every country, who will all in time receive a Red Cross parcel.
