Summary
Library material of the launching of the Tirpitz by Frau Von Hassel (daughter of Admiral Tirpitz). Hitler is seen arriving for the launch. Tirpitz goes down slipway and takes to the water. Approximately 4 1/2 years after these pictures were taken, the British Navy sent in 4 midget submarines to launch their torpedoes in a daring undersea attack on the battleship then stationed in Alter Fjord, Norway. She was attacked by planes of the Fleet Air Arm and the RAF Barracuda aircraft are seen landing on an aircraft carrier after one such sortie and making crash landings. Those that are too badly damaged are immediately dumped over the side. Then Lancasters of the RAF go in to bomb Tirpitz with twelve thousand pound bombs. Tirpitz is screened with smoke and flak fills the sky but this doesn’t stop the bombs reaching their target and three direct hits by "Earthquake" bombs finishes off the ship that never fired a shot in any action at sea.
