Summary
Cheering crowds line the streets of Paris as trucks full of FFI personnel and allied troops enters the outskirts. Generals de Gaulle, Leclerc and Koenig are seen as they enter the city to great reception. But the fighting isn’t over yet and from established strongpoints the Germans open fire once again, and street fighting takes place. A German tank explodes at Les Invalides and German POWs are crowded onto jeeps at base of the Eiffel Tower. An aerial view of Paris shows the scene in one of the crowded boulevards below. De Gaulle at tomb of unknown warrior lays a wreath and walks down Champs Elysees through cheering crowds. Unhalted by sporadic outbursts of firing from a hidden enemy by De Gaulle drives down the Rue de Rivoli towards the Hotel de Ville - in all five attempts were made on his life. An angry crowd threatens to lynch the captured German prisoners who are hustled through the gates of the Hotel de Ville by French police. French, British and American troops march down the Champs Elysees to tumultuous welcome from Parisians.
