- Summary
- Ships of the 5th United States Fleet bombard the island of Guam prior to landings. Planes join in to round off seventeen days of terrific bombardment. The first assault wave goes in followed by armour. The first American casualties are high and wounded personnel are seen being carried on stretchers. Since these pictures were taken the message has been received "All organised resistance has ceased". (9th August 1944).
