Summary
British and Canadian troops converge for the double thrust between the Odon and the Orne rivers. Sherman flail tanks move forward for minefield clearing. Lancasters take part in "Operation Clobber" the name given to the air bombardment which preceded the offensive. One Lancaster is seen crashing in flames. Heavy artillery plays its part too while Royal Engineers erect a Bailey Bridge over the Caen Canal. Troops penetrate into the suburb of Colombelles outside Caen, and although the Germans put up heavy resistance our armour battles its way towards Troarn making a path for the infantry. In the Cherbourg area the arrival of Mr Churchill takes place. His second visit to France since "D" Day, he inspects V2 sites and makes a comprehensive tour of the battlefront.
