- Summary
- Troops hitting beaches from landing craft, also heavy equipment coming ashore. Enemy gun emplacements are levelled off by Royal Engineers with pneumatic drills and dynamite. Naval ships offshore give support from gun barrage. Bombers over Northern France make it difficult for enemy reinforcements to be brought up. Aboard a British warship Admiral Ramsey, General Eisenhower and General Montgomery consult on the progress of the landings. Monty comes ashore by DUKW to set up his HQ. Glider reinforcements arrive to support those already fighting inland. Troops advancing through countryside and more Normandy villages are taken. Tanks en route to Caen. German troops are rounded up, and despatched to England.
