- Liberator bombers launch softening up attack on Jap positions on Rabaul. US warships off the coast lay down a barrage over New Britain as Marines board landing craft and head for the beach. Sherman tank advances with group of US troops following in its tracks. Approaching a pill box they find Japanese dead. Waist deep in jungle swamps and through deep slushy mud, they advance inches forward.
