Summary
On October 11th Portugal granted facilities in the Azores to the British Government which will enable better protection to be given to merchant shipping in the Atlantic. British warships are seen off the Azores, men go ashore from the warships, supplies arrive at the small harbour, military personnel and Portuguese workers construct airfield, camps and kitchens are erected. A casualty is taken to a Portuguese hospital. Portuguese women help with the laundry. On October 26th Air Commodore Brackley of Headquarters, Transport Command, flew to meet Air Commodore Powell from Montreal, making a link with East and West in mid-Atlantic.
