Summary
The fall of Messina means the whole of Sicily is in allied hands. In and around Messina showing bomb and shell damage to the town, and looking across the Straits towards Italy. The Stars and Stripes fly from the Municipal Building in Messina, the Royal Navy flag is also hoisted. Montgomery arrives to visit his troops and hands out cigarettes to them. Shore batteries and ships in the Straits open fire on the Italian coast.
