- Summary
- It is now known that the invasion of Sicily’s final plans were completed in Malta where General Eisenhower had his HQ. Planes also played their part in the invasion plans and Baltimores are seen flying out towards Sicily and over Mt Etna. They release their bombs over Milazzo. The fall of Catania is seen with British troops in action. Canadians advance and move through Leonforte and at Valguarnera a proclamation of occupation by the British is read out to the inhabitants. It was in this area that Montgomery visited Major General Simmonds. Near Vizzini our infantry advance and civilians who had banded themselves together into an armed force are rounded up and disarmed. But in some place the inhabitants were happy to see our troops and in Militello they are seen greeting the troops. Lieutenant General Patton, 7th US Army Commander arrives for a conference with Generals Alexander and Montgomery.
