Summary
The beginning of Spring with the melting of the snow reveals bodies of Germans and Russians killed in the fighting. Around Vyazma and in the town itself are seen the results of the German occupation. Bodies of mutilated civilians in the street, and the homeless cook for their families out in the open. Russian farmers prepare their fields for sowing and all the time around them wreckage litters the scene. Soviet troops are seen in action, fighting from ruined buildings.
