British Moving Picture News

Dates
1917 - 1922
History
Scottish Moving Picture News began on 13 October 1917 and dealt primarily with news stories of Scottish interest. Although it initially had a weekly release, by November 1918 it was bi-weekly. In May 1919 the title of the newsreel changed to British Moving Picture News & this continued until August 1921 when it reverted back to Scottish Moving Picture News. There is evidence of production of Scottish Moving Picture until December 1922 but nothing beyond this point.
Provenance
There are only seventeen surviving items from the entire production of Scottish/Moving Picure News, so the data has primarily come from the contemporary trade journal, Kinematograph Weekly. This was researched and compiled by Janet McBain, Archive Curator at the Scottish Screen Archive.

In cases where only the month and the year of the release date were known together with the issue number of the story, the day was calculated and inserted.
Other Information
There is no known current rights owner for Scottish/British Moving Picture News. The seventeen surviving items are preserved in the Scottish Screen Archive, with copies of some at the Imperial War Museum , and the BFI National Archive
