History
Spotlight, previously known as Rhodesian Spotlight and Federal Spotlight, was a cinemagazine produced by the Central African Film Unit (CAFU) and distributed within the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. It ceased production with the demise of CAFU when the Federation collapsed at the end of 1963 when each of the countries within it, Northern Rhodesia, Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland, gained independence from the United Kingdom. The Spotlight series were basically designed to promote the Federation both at home and abroad through a topical mix of stories and was generally regarded as the most important activity of the unit from the mid 1950s.
