Career

Born John Mordaunt Snagge, Chelsea, London. Awarded OBE 1944. John Snagge was a BBC announcer who provided commentaries for a small number of Movietone reels, beginning with British Movietone News No.563A of March 1940, which was credited as ‘Movietone’s War Time News described by John Snagge (Courtesy of the BBC).' His wartime work ended with No.636 in August 1941, but he returned for ‘REVIEW OF THE YEAR 1950,' which took up the whole of British Movietone News No.1125A in December 1950. In 1949 Snagge was credited as commentator for British Paramount News. He was also credited as commentator for issues of the colour cinemagazine Look At Life, including ‘COMMON MARKET’ and ‘THE CURTAIN CHANGES’, released in 1962 and 1964.
