The name ‘Smith’ appears in the camera teams for ‘THE GRAND NATIONAL, 1927’ in Pathe Gazette No.1384 of March 1927, ‘THE GRAND NATIONAL, 1933’ in Pathe Super Sound Gazette No.33/25 of March 1933, and ‘THE GRAND NATIONAL, 1934’ in No.34/25 of March 1934. After these few irregular appearances, Smith became a regular contributor to News Series Pictorial. His first credit for this newsreel is ‘SHIP ON LAND’ in No.7 of May 1936 and his last ‘HOUSE ORNAMENTS’ in No.180 of September 1939.
