Career

Reginald Cavender was born in London, and entered the film industry in 1927 as a camera assistant at Twickenham Studios. He rose to be director of photography, and worked on more than a hundred films, before resigning in 1937. He subsequently worked with a number of different companies before joining the RAF Film Unit in 1942. He served in the Middle East, North Africa, Italy, and Greece, before being demobilised in 1946, and joining Pathe Pictures as director of photography. Cavender received a number of credits for camera work at Pathe, the first being for ‘RADIO STARS TAKE IT FROM HERE’ in Pathe News No.50/5 of January 1950. Cavender was also in the camera teams covering George VI’s funeral in February 1952 for ‘THE KING COMES HOME’ in Pathe News No.52/14, and ‘THE LAST JOURNEY’ in No.52/15, where he filmed at Westminster Hall. His final credit is for ‘JETAWAY GETAWAY’ in Pathe News No.66/57 of July 1966.
