- Tony Pullen and cameraman Eric Lindeman [qv] were shown with their equipment in British Paramount News No.2619, ‘ORESTE IS HERE!' of April 1956. The June 1953 credit is for ‘J. Pullen,' which is probably a mistake. There may be a link with Patrick Pullen, who was a writer, director, and cameraman on short documentaries and advertisements: P. Noble (ed) ‘British Film and Television Year Book 1956/57’ (London, 1956), p.252.
Career
Tony Pullen was a sound engineer who first appears in a British Paramount News assignment note from February 1953, when it is recorded that for a particular story ‘Pullen will also be in early.' In May 1953 a Paramount ‘Daily Assignment Sheet’ listed him as working with Arthur Farmer [qv], on filming cut-ins for ‘AUSTRALIANS TAKE OVER PALACE GUARD’ in British Paramount News No.2321. In June 1953 Pullen was also recorded as helping to bring back film from Paramount’s coverage of Trooping the Colour, and he received a similar mention in November 1953 for a football match. ‘Pullen’ was credited by Movietone in the camera team for ‘THE GRAND NATIONAL’ in British Movietone News No.1347 of March 1955, but in March 1956 ‘Tony Pullen’ is credited as soundman with cameraman Eric Lindeman [qv] on ‘1,132 m.p.h. FAIREY DELTA II SETS ASTOUNDING RECORD!' in British Paramount News No.2613. In April 1956 he worked with cameraman Henry Hawkins [qv] on ‘MARINES RECEIVE COLOURS FROM DUKE’ in British Paramount News No.2625. In August 1956, on another assignment with Hawkins, Pullen was credited with taking some sound film sequences.
