Career

Kenneth Kendall was born in Southern India. He was educated at Felsted School and Oxford University where he studied Modern Languages. He served in the Coldstream Guards from 1943 until 1946, was wounded during the Normandy landings and was demobilised as a Captain.

In 1948, he began a long association with the BBC as a radio announcer. He transferred to television in 1954, as a newsreader, staying until 1961. From then until 1969, he was a freelancer working in television, radio and films. His credits for Pathe Colour Pictorial are all in 1962. They begin with ‘DRYDEN NIGHT’ in Issue No.369 of January 1962, and end with ‘GOLD IN JOHANNESBURG’ in Issue No.381 of April 1962.

After this and other freelance work, Kendall returned to the BBC and was one of BBC TV News’ ‘Big Three’ newsreaders with Richard Baker and Robert Dougall. His final news buletin was in 1981. He made several other television appearances subsequently, but is perhaps most well known for presenting Channel 4’s ‘Treasure Hunt’
