Career

Stan Goozee was a cameraman whose first surviving credit is for filming the wedding of Princess Elizabeth in November 1947. The company he worked for is not known, but it may have been Pathe for Goozee was next credited for ‘STAR ON ICE’ in Pathe Pictorial No.178 of September 1948. This showed Adele Inge skating, with ‘Stan Goozee on skates photographing her.' His first credit in the main reel was for ‘YOUNG FARMERS SCARE OFF MR CROW’ in Pathe News No.49/43 of May 1949, whilst in the following month he was in the camera team that filmed ‘THE DERBY’ for Pathe News No.49/45. In February 1950 Goozee helped film ‘BRITAIN DECIDES’ - the General Election report - for Pathe News No.50/17, and in September 1950 he filmed the diagram for Ken Gordon’s [qv] report ‘128 TRAPPED IN PIT DISASTER’ in Pathe News No.50/73. Goozee appeared again with his camera in ‘PREMATURE BABY UNIT’ in Pathe Pictorial No.328 of December 1950, and also in ‘BATS’ in No.331 of January 1951.

His credits indicate regular employment on both the Pathe Pictorial and Pathe News. This ranged from filming from the top of the Marble Arch for ‘THE LAST JOURNEY (KING’S FUNERAL)' in Pathe News No.52/15 of February 1952, to appearing with his camera in a comic item entitled ‘HATS’ in Pathe Pictorial No.449 in April 1953. Goozee was also noted by Paul Wyand [qv] as one of the Pathe cameraman who filmed the Royal Tour of New Zealand in January 1954, along with Martin Rolfe [qv]. Goozee again appeared with his camera in ‘WOMEN’S ISLAND’ in Pathe Colour Pictorial No.153 of February 1957, and continued to work for the company until at least May 1967, when he appeared with David Allan [qv] in ‘TOP OF THE TOWER’ in Pathe Colour Pictorial No.648 - a story which seems to have been peopled entirely by Pathe employees. After the closure of Pathe News in 1970 Goozee worked for Movietone, his first credit being in the team that filmed ‘HIGHLAND GAMES IN COLOUR’ for British Movietone News No.2255A of August 1972. Goozee afterwards filmed a number of stories ending with ‘CROCODILE FARM’ in British Movietone News No.2436 of February 1976.

A Stanley Goozee is credited as Director on a film, released in August 1960, about the ice dancer Doreen Denney and Courtney Jones, the fourth in a series British Sporting Personalities made by Associated British Pathe on behalf of the Central Office of Information (COI). In the late 1960s he worked on two technicolor cinemagazines, also made by Pathe for the COI, Roundabout (1962-1974) and Parade (1963-1973). His earliest credit for Roundabout is ‘200,000TH MINI EXPORTED’, Issue No.85, released June 1969 and for Parade, ‘CARIBBEAN FENWICKS’, Issue No.70, released September 1969.
