George Elliot

George Elliot was the commentator for three Movietone issues in 1966, namely British Movietone News No.1931A of June 1966, No.1935A of July 1966, and No.1948 of October 1966. He seems to have been tried out in much the same way as Donald Grey [qv]. Peter Hampton [qv] recalled that Fox were tired of Mitchell and wanted a ‘more modern voice’ for the reel. A number of commentators were tried out during 1967, including C. Hamilton [qv], Peter Nerreter [qv], C. Reed [qv], and D. Scott-Job [qv], but only Nerreter proved to be any good.
