History
The Colonial Film Unit (CFU) was established by the Ministry of Information, under the supervision of the Film Division, in 1939, primarily to explain the war primarily to audiences in Africa. From 1945 the emphasis switched to producing instructional films and the formation of regional film units such as the Central African Film Unit [qv]. The CFU produced all twenty eight issues of Colonial Cinemagazine, which started production in 1945 and continued for four years.
