Career
Jock May’s first feature film credit is for ‘FIRES WERE STARTED’ (1943), with Humphrey Jennings. In 1947 and 1948, he worked for the Crown Film Unit [qv] on the Mining Review series, recording the sound for 1st Year Nos.2, 3 and 5.
He went on to have a very successful career as a sound recordist, with his credits ranging from ‘DRACULA’ (1958), ‘SPACE FLIGHT IC-1’ (1965) and ‘SCROOGE’ (1970). He created the ‘Hammer sound’ for the audio tracks of the productions from Hammer Films.
