Career
Robert Kruger first got a taste for films as a star struck assistant manager of the Tatler Cinema in Manchester. Paul Rotha [qv] offered him a job which he took in 1944. He then joined Data Film Productions [qv] in 1950, eventually becoming an Editor. Until 1959, he worked closely with Francis Gysin [qv] on Mining Review. His credits include, support services for ‘THE MINER SINGS’ in Mining Review 4th Year No.9 of May 1951 and cutter for ‘COAL: OUR WASTING ASSET’ in 7th Year No.6 of February 1954.
In 1961, Donald Alexander [qv] asked Kruger to join him working abroad. He combined this work with working for the NCB throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He later took over the production of Review from John Reid [qv] from 1965, producing such stories as ‘SURVIVAL’ in Review 26th Year No.10 of June 1973 and ‘OXFAM’ in 36th Year No.4 of December 1982. By the time of this last credit, he was Associate Producer in charge of Review.
