Career

Mann was a Scottish cameraman who worked with Paul Robello [qv], and founded the company of Robello and Mann in 1922. The company’s first surviving newsreel credit is for ‘SCOTTISH WAR MEMORIAL’ in the Daily Sketch Topical Budget No.600-2 of February 1923. Robello and Mann may have had a contract with the Topical Film Company, for they supplied further items that year, and Mann himself was credited for ‘BRITISH GOLF VICTORY’ in Daily Sketch Topical Budget No.616-2 of June 1923 and also ‘MONUMENT TO EARL HAIG UNVEILED IN GLASGOW’ in Topical Budget No.631-2 of October 1923. When the Topical Budget launched a Glasgow edition the company also provided substitute stories. The last Topical Budget credit is for ‘DUKE AND DUCHESS OF YORK IN GLASGOW,' which Robello and Mann supplied for the Glasgow edition of No.839-1 in September 1927.
