Career

Bartholomew was a cameraman for the Pathe Gazette, whose first surviving credit is as part of the camera team which filmed ‘RUGBY LEAGUE FINAL’ for Super Sound Gazette No.34/37 of May 1934. Bartholomew worked fairly regularly for Pathe over the next two years, both alone and as part of camera teams, his last credit being for ‘THE DERBY 1937’ in Super Sound Gazette No.37/44 of June 1937. It is possible that he was only employed full-time for three years, for when the short-lived National News was launched in October 1937 it was announced that Bartholomew would be one of the five cameramen, and that he was currently a freelancer on the Pathe Gazette. Production of the National News was suspended soon after its launch, and the newsreel folded in February 1938 when its camera gear was put up for sale.
