    This nicely designed website is the result of a participatory media project by sixth form students at Walsall Academy in Bloxwich, a small town in the West Midlands. Featuring interviews with local residents who recount their memories of growing up in the area, one of the interviewees is Noddy Holder of Slade, who talks about his childhood, as well as the links between the industry of the Black Country and the development of heavy metal music.

    The CAIN (Conflict Archive on the InterNet) website, located at the University of Ulster, contains information and source material on ‘the Troubles’ and politics in Northern Ireland from 1968 to the present. There is also some material on society in the region and a selection of digitised records from the National Archives of Ireland and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. The main sections are: Background to the Conflict; Key Events; Key Issues, Databases and Bibliographies, Northern Ireland Society and Conflict Studies. The films section lists films with ‘the Troubles’ as the theme. There is also video footage of a selection of Physical Memorials in public spaces. The videos contain no commentary and provide enough detail for users to be able to read inscriptions.

    Politico Europe (formerly European Voice) is an English-language newspaper founded by The Economist Group in 1995. The newspaper reports on the activities of the key European Union institutions: the European Commission, European Parliament, and Council of Ministers. The paper is available on subscription or by direct sale from a limited number of newsstands in Brussels, London, Luxembourg, and Strasbourg – reflecting the specialist nature of its readership. The Video pages offer short video interviews to accompany the daily news stories and the podcasts give a roundup of the news items reported on in the week.

    The A/V Geeks Film Archive is an American 16mm educational film collection curated by Skip Elsheimer housing over 24,000 films gathered from school auctions, thrift stores, attics and rubbish tips. Many titles are available for sale on DVD. The films are searchable by broad theme (religion, experiments caught on film, propaganda, telephone). Compilation videos are also for sale including topics such as factories and assembly lines, films from the 1950 and sex education. Because of the manner in which the films were acquired the technical quality is highly variable. The majority of titles can be shipped overseas.

    London Sound Survey is a growing collection of creative commons-licensed sound recordings of people, places and events in the capital. Historical references are gathered to find out how London’s sounds have changed. Topics covered are eclectic including auctions, market traders, charity fundraising, fairgrounds and amusements, soapbox orators, calls to worship and beggars and hustlers. Contextual information includes date of recording, the name of the recorder, location, summary of content and technical details of the recording. A sound map enables users to identify the sounds of a particular area of London.

    This website is a model of uncluttered clarity. The online collection features extensive audiovisual content from the American Jewish Committee’s anti-prejudice campaigns in the post-World War II era. Users will find, in addition to the films and television programmes themselves, primary documentation produced by the AJC’s television department about the production of these cartoons and live-action short subjects. Also includes the audio content with scripts of AJC-related radio programmes from 1939 to 1955. There is an interactive time-line giving a decade-by-decade tour through the twentieth century.
