This resource was established at the University of Kent in 2013 to celebrate, preserve, and provide access to the archives and records of British stand-up comedy and comedians. The information on the University of Kent Special Collections page gives details of the available material, which includes stills, posters, production documents and audiovisual content, in the form of off-air recordings and video recordings of live events. A full catalogue will be made available online in 2016 but until then interested researchers can email the Special Collections team (specialcollections@kent.ac.uk) regarding the collections, which can be viewed in the Special Collections & Archives Reading Room in the Templeman Library. The digitisation is ongoing but some audiovisual content is already available on Soundcloud, including material from Attila the Stockbroker, Linda Smith, Mark Thomas and Richard Herring. The project’s excellent and informative blog provides regular updates about new acquisitions as well as interesting thoughts and advice on audiovisual digitisation on a budget in terms of equipment, funding and workflow.

This site aims to recreate the soundscape of New York in the early twentieth century. Contemporary newsreel footage, with the live sound foregrounded, provides a fascinating perspective on a defining aspect of the urban experience during the Jazz Age. The bulk of the clips are taken from the 1920s but the time span runs between 1900 - 1932. Website navigation is via a beautifully designed map of New York city and the surrounding areas. The newsreel footage (mainly Fox Movietone) and sounds are enhanced by the presence of noise pollution complaints (some with documentation) from the time, taken from the Municipal Archives of New York, ranging from printing plants in Brooklyn to barking dogs in Queens.

This site accompanies a major sixty part series broadcast from October 2014 on Radio 4. A joint collaboration by the BBC and the Open University, the series presents a wide-ranging foray into the history of ideas according to scientists, philosophers, linguists, and religious and political thinkers. The programmes are accompanied by a series of short but cleverly designed animations, voiced by Gillian Anderson and Harry Shearer, each of which presents a snapshot view of a particular philosophical problem or idea. Current themes include the nature of freedom, knowing wrong from right, the origins of the universe, has technology changed us and what makes us human. The Open University also has a page devoted to the series, with links to the animations themselves as well as to other relevant textual and audiovisual resources from Open University academics and researchers.
