This site is one of the outcomes of a research project led by academics at the Universities of Sussex and Warwick. The focus is on new writings about global forms of queer cinema, based mainly, though not exclusively on scholarly models from queer theory and film studies. There is a mixture of short articles and longer essays, as well as multimedia work and video essays. A resources page has links to other online studies and other useful information, including an interactive map showing 256 LGBT/queer film festivals which have existed around the world since 1977.

This streaming site offers a wide selection of films curated by a team of experts, with a particular emphasis on world cinema, lost classics and important but difficult to find films. The films themselves are not currently available in the United Kingdom due to licensing restrictions, but its online film journal Keyframe contains an interesting selection of content, presenting a mixture of articles, interviews, reviews, festival information and video essays on aspects of film history and theory. Two examples from the video essay selection give a sense of the site’s ambitions to provide contextual material to go with the films: a look the 1965 film Four in the Morning, featuring a young Judi Dench, and an analysis of how Carl Th. Dreyer’s created a cinematic uncanny in his 1932 film ‘Vampyr’.

Culture Unplugged is a dynamic, not-for-profit organisation with a ‘vision and aspiration to integrate disparate parts of the self and the global human society. It aims to achieve this, primarily by leveraging the power of new media and extending the effort to offline events and actions.' To this end, the website invites filmmakers from around the world to upload films on social or spiritual issues for online viewing and holds regular themed ‘festivals’ following which films are kept in the archive for future viewing. Festival themes so far include Green Unplugged, Humanity Explored, Spirit Enlighened, and We Speak Here. There is a facility for viewers, if they so choose, to submit financial contributions which are passed on to the filmmakers. The website has a very international feel and is somewhat chaotic. However, there are some interesting films that are searchable by festival theme, genre, geographic region, popularity and duration. fillMedia network is a separate section of the site which provides ‘a platform for cross-pollination of ideas, spirit and knowledge among storytellers, content producers, professionals from social/scientific arenas and global audiences.'
