Galileo

Synopsis
Europe, the sixteenth century. The Copernican theory that the earth revolves around the sun is considered false. Galileo, a courageous astronomer and inventor, constructs a superior version of the existing telescope and makes many astronomical discoveries, including the mountains and valleys on the surface of the moon. In 1614, whilst working as a mathematician at the court in Florence, Galileo is accused of heresy for supporting Copernicus’s idea that the sun is at the centre of the solar system. In 1632, he is again accused of heresy for publishing his book ‘Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief Systems’. Summoned to appear before the Inquisition in Rome, Galileo is sentenced to permanent house arrest and forced to publicly withdraw his support for Copernican theories.
