Newcomers, The

Synopsis
The NEWCOMERS is a film about economically threatened Appalachian people in transition. Made in 1963, the documentary deals with issues of immigration and migration and the importance of learning how to live with people who are different from one’s self. George C. Stoney’s film was made for a church audience and is a re-enacted documentary. Looking back, the director himself commented that working with the subjects of the film changed his attitudes towards "hillbillies" and "I hope it also did for the middle class audience we made the film for. I suspect those class attitudes exist today and I hope that this film can continue to help change those attitudes."
