Sun, The

Synopsis
This film documents the life of our closest star and the forces that sustain it, following humanity’s fascination with the sun, from the primitive desert astronomy of Native Americans to the first sighting of sunspots from Galileo’s 17th century telescope and on to the twentieth century when astronauts peered for the first time into the maelstrom of the sun’s fiery surface from an X-ray telescope on board the space shuttle. The film ends with a trip to the mountains of northern Japan in the search of mysterious infinitesimally small neutrinos, which offer clues to the processes that fuel the inferno deep within the sun’s core.
