Financial Strategy
- Synopsis
- This DVD features three programmes. The first, Public Projects, Private Finance, examines the funding of public sector projects through the Private Finance Initiative (PFI). The programme considers debt capital, risk, value for money and equity capital, illustrating these concepts with case studies from two large projects: Altcourse prison and Calderdale Healthcare NHS Trust. Experts from PFI, academia, politics and lending institutions offer insights into the complexities of decision-making in this area.
The second programme PFI: The Story Continues, continues examining PFIs by discussing the issues surrounding Unitary charges and refinancing. The final programme, Changing Values, follows the fortunes of Eastern Electricity from its days as part of the nationalized electricity board, through its privatisation in 1990 and take-over by Hanson plc to another threatened tale-over by a US utility company in 1998. The valuation of the company is the video’s key theme and various methods of valuation - including assets, dividend yield, earnings, EBITDA and free cash flow - are illustrated in an accessible and jargon-free way. - Language

- NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
