- Synopsis
- Three-part documentary series. In episode 2 James Shapiro analyses Shakespeare’s work in the years following the 1605 gunpowder plot including Macbeth and Coriolanus - two plays written at a time of great civil unrest - and examines James I’s struggle to demonstrate his legitimacy. RSC Artistic Director, Michael Boyd, talks about his 2011 stage production of Macbeth and there is an extract from the Porter’s scene. Boyd also talks about Antony and Cleopatra. Includes scenes from Ralph Fiennes in CORIOLANUS (2012) and Fiennes talks briefly about the play.
