Smart Car

Synopsis: In October 2000, Daimler-Chrysler introduced the Smart car to the UK market. This two-seater urban economy car had already been successfully marketed in Europe, and was the result of an innovative collaboration between Mercedes Benz and Swatch, the Swiss watch manufacturer. This programme examines the branding of the Smart car and its assembly in Hambach, France. In assembly, the process is equally innovative: twelve of the Tier One suppliers to Smart have co-located on the same site.
