West Mata Submarine Volcano Eruption

Synopsis
High definition video footage of the underwater explosion of the West Mata volcano, nearly 4,000 feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, in an area bounded by Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. Filmed in 2009 by the Jason robotic submersible, operated by the Woods Oceanographic Institution. Research was funded by the US National Science Foundation and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
