Old Ways, New Ways

Synopsis
A documentary directed by Olivier Stockman about the Peek Freans biscuit factory in Bermondsey and its closing down in the late 1980s. This film also looks back at nearly 100 years of the factory’s life and shows footage of an earlier 24-minute documentary on the factory made in 1906 entitled A VISIT TO PEEK FREAN AND COMPANY’S BISCUIT WORKS. This was an early ‘commercial’ made for the company. It shows workers getting up steam for the ovens, rolling dough and cutting shapes, a false fire alarm, workers leaving for lunch, workers packing biscuits, delivery by horse-drawn vans and a few early motor lorries.
