Problem Solving and Improvement

Synopsis
This DVD contains five programmes from the OU course Problem Solving and Improvement (T889) that are associated with Blocks 3: Techniques, Block 4: Methods and Approaches and Block 5: Managing Problem Solving and Improvement

Programme 1 Managing processes: SPC in action (Block 3)
Programme 2 Recognising excellence (Block 4)
Programme 3 Problem solving in action: Six Sigma at Scottish Power (Block 4)
Programme 4 Problem solving in action: transformation at COSi (Block 5)
Programme 5 Customers, quality and competition (Block 5)

Problem solving is a necessary activity for all organisations. However, it is clear that much of it is ineffective: chronic problems that were deemed to have been solved re-emerge and opportunities remain unrealised. Many organisations have established mechanisms that have tried to expand the problem solving and improvement constituency but, although most have had early successes, many have foundered over time. T889 doesn’t just look at techniques and approaches to problem solving and improvement; it also looks in depth at the nature of problems and solutions, and at the management of problem solving and improvement.

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
