Venepuncture

Synopsis
The St George’s Clinical Skills series is designed as a teaching and revision tool for undergraduate medical and healthcare students. Good technique is demonstrated to provide step by step guides using live action and animation. Where appropriate, relevant anatomy and physiology is also covered to create an in depth understanding of each technique. All programmes are designed with full menus to enable viewing of the full programme or selective sections — particularly helpful for revision purposes

This programme is in three sections, Anatomy, Equipment and Technique. Using live action and animated graphics, the sections cover: Anatomy location of the veins of the forearm; Basic vein function; Identification of venepuncture site; Equipment The Vacutainer system — the components, how they work and how to assemble for use
Technique Preparation of the patient; Finding the vein; Detailed technique of venepuncture; Safe disposal of materials. The programme is particularly aimed at Medical and Healthcare students, but will also prove useful to any healthcare staff in revising their technique.
