Day of Wrath

Synopsis
A classic film by Carl Dreyer depicting the events in a seventeenth century Danish community which sees an accusation of witchcraft levelled against the wife of a cathedral notary. It deals with his prime concerns of religious faith, the supernatural, social intolerance, innocence and guilt, and the clash between society and the individual - especially the individual woman.
Adapted from a 1909 stage play, ‘Anne Pedersdotter’, by Norwegian writer Hans Wiers-Jenssen. Danish dialogue with English subtitles.

DVD extras include feature documentary by Danish Dryer expert Casper Tybjerg; two short films by Dryer - THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER (1947, 15 mins) and A CASTLE WITHIN A CASTLE (1955, 8 mins).
