Synopsis
Television eight-part series in which on consecutive evenings actors perform extracts from Shakespeare’s plays and poems. Episode 8 - Mark Lamarr reads ‘All the world’s a stage’ from As You Like It (II vii), Meera Syal performs Sonnet 77 ‘Thy glass will show thee how thy beauties wear’, Simon Pegg performs ‘Drink, Sir is a great provoker of three things, nose-painting, sleep and urine’ from Macbeth (II iii), Daniela Nardini performs ‘They say all lovers swear more performance than they are able’ from Troilus and Cressida (III ii). Mark Benton performs ‘A good sherris-sack hath a two-fold operation in it’ from Henry IV. Part II (IV iii), Delroy Atkinson, Ashley Campbell and Oliver Mason read Sonnet 17 ‘Who will believe my verse in time to come’, Lisa Riley performs ‘The quality of mercy is not strained’ from The Merchant of Venice (IV i), Mark Gatiss performs ‘Now is the winter of our discontent’ from Richard III (I i), Alistair McGowan performs ‘if it were done when ‘tis done, then ‘twere well it were done quickly’ from Macbeth (I vii), Tracy-Ann Oberman performs ‘he hath disgraced me, and hindered me half a million’ from The Merchant of Venice(III i) and Simon Pegg performs ‘Give my thoughts no tongue, nor any unproportioned thought his act’ from Hamlet (I iii).
