Alchemists of Sound Radiophonic Workshop

Synopsis

The programme discusses Delia Derbyshire and the other members of the team, who shaped the future of sound with their use of electronic manipulation. The documentary includes interviews with composers from the Workshop, as well as musicians and writers who have been inspired by the output. The archive footage of the Workshop and its machinery is accompanied by excerpts of television programmes that featured these sounds, including BLAKE’S SEVEN, THE BODY IN QUESTION and QUATERMASS.
