Synopsis: The telephone provides many people with their primary means of accessing information and seeking support. This video covers the key issues that anyone needs to bear in mind if their work involves them in offering such help - be they a counsellor, a helpline operator or simply someone using the phone to give advice. The video demonstrates: the benefits and drawbacks of using the telephone for both helper and caller; how to adapt existing counselling skills to telephone work; specific skills to use on the telephone - for example, how to set appropriate boundaries and how to deal with problem callers.
